When Bad Things Happen to Good People.

I have been asking God, Why?

Why was a young life taken so suddenly?

Why was a young mother and child taken from this earth?

Why is a long-time co-worker living her last days in the care of Hospice?

Why is a family watching their father and husband die with dignity and grace?

Why God? It doesn’t make sense to me. They and their families don’t deserve the agony and the pain they are feeling. How can this happen? Do you ask yourself these questions?

I have been angry about this. I’m just being real.  A cloud of darkness engulfed our community. As though evil has been waiting in the wings to pounce. All of this amidst the backdrop of a natural disaster of ferocious weather, taking and ruining more lives elsewhere. I have literally said aloud, WTF is happening? Why is this happening?!

And yet…as much as I have struggled with these questions, as there really isn’t an answer; I seek God’s solace. Our community sought God’s love and experienced it. Our friends are praying to God for peace as their spouse, father, mother, daughter, son are slowly leaving our earth. A community mourning death sees God through the love that is being shared amongst the living.

Through all of these tragedies, God is ever-present. He is praised and lifted up.

He brought an entire community together in so many ways. His love was everywhere.

He brought neighbors together to mourn and show their love.

He brings peace to the families that are suffering and they rely on Him for strength to go on.

How beautiful is this? I’m in tears as I write this. Tears of joy and appreciation.

Do you understand what I’m saying? I can’t blame God for evil. Evil is everywhere. God is Love. God is kindness. Go is compassion. God is strength. God is living amongst us in our community. God is Love.

Through the sadness that has engulfed our world and our small community of late, my faith in God is stronger than ever. I hope that if you are struggling you understand what I am saying to you. When all else seems confusing and we have no answers to the question, why do bad things happen to good people; God is right in front of you to help you grieve and feel His everlasting and unwavering love.

Events like this can make some want to blame our Heavenly Father. He cannot control the evil in this world. Sadly that darned apple situation created sin and bad in our world. What God promises us is everlasting love and life with Him. Leaning on Him this last week has only shown me through the acts of those in our community that He is Love and His love endures and gets us through the darkness.

While I can’t imagine the pain that those I mentioned are going through, I know that they feel our love, because we are a community of God. I feel such peace when I read this:

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2

God is Love my friends.

Be Well and Be Blessed.
